Storm Alert Update – January 29, 2026

Although markets are still recovering from Winter Storm Fern, Winter Storm Gianna has moved into the spotlight, impacting the East Coast this weekend. With cleanup and restoration still underway in several areas, this new storm could slow recovery efforts and create additional disruptions from Georgia through Virginia, with additional icy impacts possible farther north.

The storm is forecast to develop along the Southeast coast late Friday, with snow potentially beginning Friday night as the system strengthens offshore. Conditions could deteriorate on Saturday as winds increase and snowfall expands along the coast. Sunday is likely to be the most impactful day, bringing the strongest winds, heavier snowfall, and the risk of coastal flooding. Parts of eastern New England could see additional accumulation on top of snowfall from Winter Storm Fern.

Operational Impacts

With impacts from Winter Storm Fern still ongoing, preparations are underway for Winter Storm Gianna. In regions where carriers are already operating, new delays may occur due to the icy roads. Moreover, fuel demand has picked up in the impacted regions due to preparation efforts for the approaching storm. Carriers across the East Coast are operating at full capacity due to elevated demand and continued hazardous road conditions stemming from Winter Storm Fern.

Site accessibility remains another key factor in completing deliveries safely and efficiently. Customers must ensure that lots, driveways, and tank access points are fully clear and safe; a lack of accessibility can result in cancelled deliveries and additional fees.

• Code Red (72-hour delivery notice required): Texas, Arkansas, Tennessee, Virginia, Washington D.C., Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Maine.
• Code Orange (48-hour delivery notice required): Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Indiana, Kentucky, West Virginia, and Georgia.

Winter Additives 

With another storm in the forecast for the next days, Mansfield strongly recommends keeping cold-flow additives (such as ColdPRO, Hot Shot Winter Defense, and Howes Diesel Treat & Anti-Gel) and an emergency reliquifier (such as Diesel 9-1-1) on site for emergencies.

Mansfield customers can order winter additives by emailing additives@mansfieldoil.com. Delivery timelines will depend on current road conditions and typically require approximately two days for ground transportation, depending on the region. Additionally, due to a sudden surge in demand for winter additives, some products may be temporarily unavailable at the time an order is placed.

In the short term, these products can often be purchased at local automotive or truck supply stores. Note that cold-flow additives can be added as a preventive measure, while reliquifiers like Diesel 9-1-1 should only be used in response to gelled fuel.
