At 10 PM on Thursday, Jan 12, Western Refining reported a fire in South El Paso that caused “only minor damage” to the facility, according to company spokesman Gary Hanson. Residents raised the alarm when they noticed yellow smoke coming from the refinery. The El Paso Fire Department was dispatched twice during the week to combat reported incidents.

The affected unit of the refinery has a typical output of 35,000 bpd. Western Refining has cut off rack supply in El Paso, Tucson, and Phoenix, causing a slight tightening of supply in these areas. The company expects to restart the unit once inspections are completed. The cause of the fire has not yet been reported. Mansfield’s supply team will continue to monitor the situation and will issue updates if the situation becomes more severe.
