Winter Storm Enzo Alert – January 20, 2025

By Published On: January 20, 2025Categories: Alerts, Winter Weather

Extremely cold weather is sweeping across the US, with many areas in the North experiencing single digit or negative temperatures. In the Southeast, Winter Storm Enzo is threatening freezing temperatures along with snow and ice. Winter storm alerts have been issued along the Gulf Coast, from the Houston TX area over to Florida and southern Georgia.

Gulf Coast refineries are closely monitoring weather conditions, since extreme cold temperatures could potentially impact refining operations. In 2021, Winter Storm Uri caused widespread power issues and forced several refineries offline, creating supply challenges. So far, no issues have been reported. Mansfield is continuing to monitor weather and refining conditions.

Areas further north will avoid the threat of snow and ice, but negative temperatures could present challenges for diesel operability. The Northern Plains will see temperatures as low as -28° F tonight, and many parts of the country could see low teens and slightly negative temperatures. Properly treating diesel fuel is an important part of maintaining operations and preventing gelling.
