Storm Alert – Tropical Storm Debby – August 8, 2024

By Published On: August 8, 2024Categories: Alerts

Tropical Storm Debby has made a second landfall in South Carolina near Bulls Bay and is slowly moving up the East Coast at 7 mph. The storm is expected to bring heavy rain and possible flooding from South Carolina to Vermont. Considerable flooding is anticipated in eastern South Carolina, southeast North Carolina, and parts of Virginia, with 3 to 9 inches of rain forecast.

North Carolina and Virginia have declared states of emergency, while Maryland has issued a state of preparedness. Heavy rainfall and flooding are expected to impact the mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions through Saturday morning. Tropical storm conditions, including 35 mph winds and coastal flooding, are currently affecting the Carolina coasts. Ohio and North Carolina seem to be the two hot spots for power outages, with over 130,000 out in North Carolina and more than 260,000 out in Ohio.

Mansfield has published post-storm protocols that emphasize the importance of checking for water in your fuel tank. If you manually stick your tank, use water-finding paste to detect water levels. If you have a tank gauge that reports water, share this information with your fuel supplier when ordering fuel to avoid contamination. If high water levels are detected, order a pump out of water or fuel polishing to prepare your tank for fresh fuel.

Mansfield is keeping South Carolina in Code Orange, requesting a 48-hour notice for new deliveries. We will continue to monitor market conditions and keep customers alerted as the situation progresses.
