Oil and Natural-Gas Operators Evacuate Some Gulf of Mexico Platforms as Hurricane Michael Approaches
MarketWatch Reported: Oil and natural-gas operators in the Gulf of Mexico have been taking precautions as Hurricane Michael approaches, evacuating a total of 10 production platforms, or about 1.5% of the 687 manned platforms in the region, the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement said Monday. Roughly 19% of Gulf oil production and about 11% of natural-gas production have been shut in, the BSEE said. Michael is expected to move across the eastern Gulf Tuesday and inland over Florida Wednesday, according to the National Hurricane Center.
$1 Billion Natural-Gas Plant Now Open in Lordstown
The Vindicator Reported: Lordstown Energy Center, a 940-megawatt, gas-fueled electricity generation plant, announced today that is has begun commercial operations. LEC uses locally-sourced natural gas to generate energy that serves about 85,000 households. “We are excited to serve customers with this state-of-the-art, environmentally friendly facility,” said Robert Haley, LEC operations director. “Our team is well-equipped and highly trained, and I’m pleased that we have begun 24/7 operations.”
