Tropical Depression Nine Has Small Chance of Becoming Hurricane

Gainesville, GA – August 31, 2016 – Analysis by Chris Carter – Tropical Depression Nine continues to move toward the bend of Florida, and is anticipated to make landfall just north of Tampa. Currently the storm is located 450 miles southwest of Apalachee Bay, Florida. The system is expected to continue to strengthen over the next 48 hours. Some models give the system a small chance to develop into a Hurricane.

The National Weather Center has issued Topical Storm Warnings and Watches for several counties. In anticipation of the system strengthening, they have also issued a Hurricane watch along several counties on the coast.

In addition to 60-70mph winds the storm may produce, it is also expected to bring heavy rains over the next 3-4 days along Central and Northern Florida, Southern Georgia, and South Carolina. In addition to the heavy rains, they expect storm surge along the Florida coast. some areas may see up-to 3 ft of surge resulting in localized flooding.

Tropical Storm Eight continues to bring heavy rains to the Outer Banks of North Carolina. It is currently moving Northeastward- away from the Carolina region. It is not anticipated to bring additional impact to the US.

We continue to focus on Florida and North Carolina. We are going to expand our efforts to South Georgia and South Carolina as Tropical Storm Nine is expected to bring heavy rains and winds to Savannah and Charleston region.
