Mansfield extends its wishes for safety and warmth to all those in the path of Winter Storm Fern.

Winter Storm Fern is in full effect, with freezing temperatures and icy rain moving quickly from Texas into the Southeast. As previous forecasts have indicated, the storm will bring notable freezing temperatures across the US, stretching from Texas and New Mexico all the way up to New England.

For fuel markets, this week brought a surge in local demand, with orders nearly doubling in some areas compared to typical seasonal needs. With ice and snow setting in, southern and central US markets are beginning to see a slowdown.

Several fuel carriers throughout central Texas and the Southeast have already pulled their trucks off the road due to hazardous road conditions. Other carriers in the Ohio Valley and northeastern US have reported plans to halt operations later this evening. Fuel supply terminals in some markets are also closing as a preventative measure. A small uptick in power outages has been reported in central Texas, but the broader impacts likely won’t be seen until this evening and into Sunday morning.
