Winter Storm Alert – January 17, 2025
Back-to-back winter storms are set to impact the eastern United States this weekend, bringing a mix of snow, rain, and icy conditions. The first storm, moving through Friday into Saturday, will deliver soaking rain and isolated thunderstorms across the Southeast, with potential for freezing rain and sleet in parts of the southern Appalachians. As colder air follows the storm, wet areas could freeze, creating unsafe road conditions.
The second storm, arriving Sunday into Monday, is expected to be colder and snowier, particularly along the Interstate 95 corridor in the Mid-Atlantic and New England. Accumulating snow could lead to slippery roads and delays in metro areas such as Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, and Boston. Meanwhile, a wintry mix of snow and ice may affect regions along I-85 from Atlanta to Richmond.
These storms could exacerbate hardships in areas still recovering from recent natural disasters. Snow, ice, and freezing temperatures are expected to make for a challenging week across much of the eastern U.S. Remember, most refineries and terminals in Texas are not prepared for freezing weather. Any prolonged cold weather, ice, and/or power disruptions could really impact the refiner units.
In light of the winter weather ahead, Mansfield is moving the following states to Code Orange, requesting 48 hours for new deliveries: Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia.
How You Can Prepare
Mansfield encourages you to monitor your inventory levels closely and assess whether additional fuel deliveries are needed before the storm to avoid potential shortages. Depending on the severity of the storm, diesel fuel may be at risk for gelling, and strong winds could impact fuel deliveries. Mansfield proactively treats all inventory-managed sites with additives and kerosene to prepare for cold weather and will keep customers informed as conditions change.
If you are not part of Mansfield’s ColdPRO program for winterized fuel or have questions, please contact your account representative or email info@mansfieldoil.com. Our team is available 24/7 to assist with any fuel adjustments or concerns.
