Storm Alert – Tropical Storm Sara – November 15, 2024
Tropical Storm Sara, initially forecast to become a hurricane and impact Florida’s west coast, has shifted its trajectory, alleviating concerns for the state. Updated forecasts from the National Hurricane Center now indicate that Sara will not directly affect Florida as a tropical cyclone. While the state may experience some rainfall next week, no major storm impacts are expected.
Currently near the northern coast of Honduras with sustained winds of 50 mph, Sara is moving westward and is expected to approach Belize and the Yucatan Peninsula late this weekend. Slight strengthening is possible if Sara’s center stays over warm waters with minimal wind shear, but the storm is expected to dissipate after the weekend.
Although Sara is not projected to directly impact the U.S., its remnants could potentially re-strengthen in the Gulf of Mexico and bring moderate flooding and wind risks to Florida late next week, depending on its path and intensity after crossing Central America.
