Storm Alert – Hurricane Debby – August 5, 2024

Hurricane Debby made landfall in Florida’s Big Bend region this morning as a Category 1 hurricane, an area still recovering from last season’s Idalia. The primary concern with Debby is the potential for historic heavy rainfall in southeast Georgia and South Carolina through Friday morning, which may result in catastrophic flooding. Rainfall between 7 and 15 inches is expected over the next 48 hours in localized areas from central to northern Florida to the Coastal Plains.

Debby currently has 75 mph wind speeds, with the potential for gusts to develop into tornadoes throughout the Southeast region, causing power outages and downed trees. Due to these conditions, carriers are unlikely to enter these markets because of dangerous wind speeds. Mansfield will maintain contact with carriers and provide updates or changes as the storm evolves. Although Debby is not impacting major fuel infrastructure at this point, it will cause local disruptions over the next few days. Savannah and Charleston may experience slight disruption in barge fuel imports.

Mansfield is proactively working to top off customers in the effected area. Analysts are monitoring the storm’s path and are working with local supply and delivery contacts to maintain reliable deliveries. Mansfield is moving to Code Orange in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina, requesting at least 48-hour notice of new deliveries in the affected area. We will continue to monitor market conditions and keep customers alerted as the situation progresses.
