Storm Alert – Level 3 Alert – Heavy Rainfall & Gusty Winds in Northern California
Throughout the Northern California area, you can expect logistical challenges due to strong storms dropping heavy rainfall. Due to flooded lanes, certain terminals in the Sacramento and Stockton areas have shut down. There is potential for another significant storm in the area today, so the challenges will likely persist for the rest of this week. According to the National Weather Service, “The associated heavy rain will create numerous areas of flash flooding.”
As this powerful storm makes its way through the Bay Area in Northern California, we can expect to see a drop in demand and a threat to local supply. The main hazard of the storm is strong wind gusts up to 50 mph, which could down trees and power lines. The second major storm threat is heavy rainfall, with a flood watch in effect for the area through Thursday afternoon. The storm is projected to move southeast to northeast, west, and southwest, eventually hitting the Santa Cruz Mountains later this week. Two to six inches of rainfall will impact most of the bay areas. Some could even see up to ten inches of rainfall.
Mansfield is moving to Code Orange for northern California, requesting that customers provide 48-hour notice for new deliveries.
What You Can Do
Anytime there is a threat to your supply or any changes in demand, please communicate with your supplier. With several fuel terminal closures and no estimated time to start back up – Mansfield will continue to monitor the storm and supply challenges.
