Winter Storm Gail – Code Orange Alert – December 17, 2020

By Published On: December 17, 2020Categories: Alerts, Daily Market News & Insights
Winter Storm Gail brought intense snowfall to the Pennsylvania/New York region, dumping over 40″ of snow since yesterday – far exceeding the 18″ forecasts from a couple days ago. Gail is moving northward, taking heavy snowfalls up to Northern New York and the New England area.

Wind gusts have been reported of up 20-25 mph in many areas, with cities like Boston, MA and Providence, RI seeing upwards of 40 mph winds. Heavy winds can cause falling trees and power lines, disrupting local energy.

Heavy snow and icy mixes can make road conditions hazardous for fleets and fuel carriers, delaying fuel deliveries. The governor of Massachusetts noted that over 3,800 pieces of snow equipment have been deployed to clear 15,000 miles of road, and other states are deploying similar fleets to clear roads. Storms can also disrupt power to local fuel terminals, limiting supply options.

Mansfield is currently on Code Orange for the Northeast, including West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New York, and New England states. Many of those states have also declared a State of Emergency to address adverse weather conditions. In affected areas, customers are asked to please provide 48-hour notice for fuel deliveries.
