Storm Alert – Hurricane Delta: Code Orange
Hurricane Delta is moving through the Gulf of Mexico and has strengthened back to a Category 2 storm after weakening over Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula. Delta is on track to make landfall along the US Gulf Coast – most likely Louisiana – on Friday. The storm is currently forecast to grow to a Category 3 or more as it progresses through the Gulf of Mexico, but it will encounter resistance before making landfall. Delta is expected to land as either a Category 2 or Category 3 storm.
Louisiana and surrounding areas are still recovering from Hurricane Laura, which made landfall in late August. Heavy rainfall and storm surge are expected to ravage coastal areas once again this week. Oil production in the Gulf Coast area has been offline since early this week, and refineries are preparing to move offline in anticipation of the storm. While the storm is passing, local fuel terminals will also shut. Reopening timelines will depend on the severity of the storm upon impact.
Mansfield remains on Code Orange for the coastal areas of each of the following states: northern Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and the Florida Panhandle.
