Winter Storm Uri – Code Orange – February 15, 2021

A large winter storm, named Uri by the Weather Channel, is bringing unusual weather across the US. Over the weekend, the storm hit parts of Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas particularly hard, disrupting both consumer demand and shale oil and gas drilling in some places. Winter advisories now cover half the US population – almost 170 million people. Traffic accidents were reported throughout Texas, and airlines halted travel. States of emergency have been declared in several states, including Alabama, Kansas, Kentucky, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Oregon, and Texas.

In addition, frigid conditions will persist in the Northern Plains, with temperatures still falling well below zero degrees Fahrenheit at night. Local fleets consuming diesel fuel should ensure they have an Emergency Kit on hand to ensure seamless winter operability. Email to learn more.

Given hazardous road conditions, fuel carriers have been forced to pull trucks off the road in some places to ensure safety. Heavy snow, icy rain, and winds have impacted road conditions and triggered power outages in some places.  The winter storm is expected to continue moving northeast, hitting the New England area hard on Tuesday.

Mansfield is moving to Code Orange for several regions, stretching from eastern Texas up to Maine in the northeast. In Code Orange areas, Mansfield requests that customers provide 48-hour notice for orders to ensure fuel can be delivered safely and efficiently.

Since Monday is a holiday for some companies, please communicate any expected changes in demand to your Mansfield representative to ensure seamless fueling operations.
