Winter Storm Gail is already bringing some wind and snow to the Northeast, with its heaviest effects expected to come this afternoon through early Thursday morning. Forecasters warn Gail will be the strongest winter storm in several years, bringing 12″-18″ of snow to northern states and 1″-3″ further south in Virginia and Maryland.
The threat of icing today extends from the northern Appalachians in North Carolina up to Pennsylvania. As the storm continues moving northward overnight, icing will move up into New England states. The storm will also bring strong winds of 20-30 mph throughout the northeast, with gusts as strong as 40-50 mphin various areas including Philadelphia and along the Northeastern coast line.
Heavy snow and icy mixes can make road conditions hazardous for fleets and fuel carriers, delaying fuel deliveries. Mansfield is currently on Code Orange for the Northeast, including West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New York, and New England states.
