Winter Storm Alert – Code Red – February 17, 2021

By Published On: February 17, 2021Categories: Alerts, Daily Market News & Insights, Storm Season

Winter weather continues to impact fuel deliveries in the South and Midwest. More ice and snow covered Texas last night, extending outages. States of emergency have been declared in 20 different states due to the snow and ice. The storm has shut down roughly one-third of all US crude production, and several refineries have paused operations until weather conditions improve.

Many fuel carriers remain off the roads, particular in Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, and western Tennessee. Hazardous road conditions, power outages, and terminal shutdowns have created severe delivery congestion, delaying fuel orders and creating a backlog of demand. These areas may experience delayed deliveries for the remainder of the week as carriers navigate treacherous road conditions.

Frigid conditions are persisting throughout the country, with temperatures in many areas falling below zero degrees Fahrenheit at night. Local fleets consuming diesel fuel should ensure they have an Emergency Kit on hand to ensure seamless winter operability. Email additives@mansfieldoil.com to learn more.

Mansfield moved to Code Red on Tuesday, February 16 for Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas, and western Tennessee. Mansfield also remains on Code Orange status, for states stretching from Oklahoma up to Maine. In both Code Red and Code Orange areas, Mansfield requests that customers provide 48-hour notice, or more when possible, for orders. Advanced notification helps ensure fuel can be delivered safely and efficiently. The safety of Mansfield’s employees, drivers, and customers is a top priority, so deliveries will be made when it’s safe to do so.
