STORM ALERT: Tropical Storm Cindy – ORANGE ALERT

By Published On: June 20, 2017Categories: Alerts

After being upgraded from Invest 93L to Potential Tropical Cyclone Three yesterday, the system moving through the Gulf of Mexico has been upgraded to Tropical Storm Cindy. The storm will bring heavy rains across the Gulf Coast this week.  Tropical Storm Watch and Warnings have been issued for parts of Louisiana and Texas.

The storm is moving North to Northwest, and will likely make landfall around the Louisiana coast late Wednesday or early Thursday as a Tropical Storm.  Most of the rain will extend into the east part of the Gulf Coast this week.  Louisiana, southern Alabama, southern Mississippi and the Florida Panhandle are expected to receive heavy rain for the remainder of the week, mixed with strong wind shear.

Given the strong wind shear, the system should remain relatively weak as it heads towards the coast, but heavy rainfalls will still affect the area. Isolated tornadoes are also a possibility.

Mansfield’s Operations team is on “Orange Alert” as the storm continues to strengthen.  We will continue to update customers as the system develops.
