Storm Alert – October 7, 2020 – Hurricane Delta – Code Orange

Hurricane Delta slowed to a Category 2 storm as it traverses the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico, but it’s expected to regain strength once it reaches the warm Gulf water.

The storm will continue strengthening, forecast to be a major storm on Friday when it makes landfall in the US. Although rainfall will be a moderate 4-8 inches (reaching 12 inches in some places), the storm could expand in size, bringing damaging storm surge and heavy winds.

Hurricane Delta has shifted slightly westward overnight, placing the Northern Texas coastline within the cone of uncertainty. Still, most models show the storm striking the middle of Louisiana, so the state is on high alert. Louisiana, Alabama, and northern Florida have each declared a state of emergency for their respective regions.

Mansfield is currently on Code Orange for the coastal areas of each of the following states: northern Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and the Florida Panhandle.
