Mexico Will Depend On U.S. Natural Gas Despite Energy Sovereignty Push
Oil Price reported: Mexico will continue to need U.S. natural gas imports over the next decade, despite efforts by the new Mexican government to reduce dependence on American natural gas, data and analytics company GlobalData said in a report on Tuesday. Currently, U.S. natural gas pipeline exports, mainly from Texas, look like a much more convenient option for Mexico than grappling with possible shortfalls of natural gas supply, according to GlobalData. “Without a comprehensive strategy that considers development of large natural gas resources, both onshore and offshore, it will be difficult to reduce the volume of imports demanded for power generation and industrial use,” the analytics firm said. Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians Hosts Ceremony For Natural Gas Line
Meridian Star reported: The Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians along with CenterPoint Energy officials held a valve turning ceremony recently in Choctaw. The ceremony featured remarks by Tribal Chief Phyliss J. Anderson, Central District Public Service Commissioner Cecil Brown, and CenterPoint Energy District Director Jason Fabre, Jr. “I am very proud to say we have seen this project to its completion and that we will see the benefits for many more decades and generations,” said Chief Anderson in a news release. “Changing to natural gas will be a huge cost savings for our Tribe with an estimate $1 million per year energy cost. This project truly demonstrates what can be accomplished when all parties work together collectively towards a goal. I am very proud of this team and the end results.” Bringing natural gas to the Tribe was a project the Economic Development office has worked on for more than 20 years, according to the release. After Tribal Council approval and securing the needed right-of-way from the Bureau of Indian Affairs, the laying of pipe began in July 2017.
