Clean Energy Begins Program to Fund Natural Gas Trucks

Transport Topics reported: Clean Energy Fuels Corp. has begun its Zero Now Financing program, according to the Newport Beach, Calif.-based company. Zero Now Financing makes the cost of purchasing a new natural gas heavy-duty truck equipped with the Cummins Westport ISX12N near-zero engine equal or lower in price than the same truck equipped with a diesel engine, according to Clean Energy. The program was introduced in May. At the time, Clean Energy reported French oil and gas company Total S.A. had become its largest stockholder and will underwrite the leasing program meant to accelerate the use of natural gas fuel in North American heavy-duty trucks. Also, motor carriers financing or purchasing trucks through Zero Now Financing will be able to buy natural gas fuel at a fixed price significantly discounted to diesel for the term of the financing/lease through a unique hedging program. In Michigan, a Big Divide Between Utilities on Replacing Coal

Energy News reported: Despite similar long-term clean energy goals, Michigan’s two major utilities have competing visions for replacing their coal generation over the next decade. DTE Energy is preparing to build a $1 billion, 1,100 megawatt natural gas plant it says is needed as it retires most of its coal fleet by 2023. While Consumers Energy went through a round of coal-plant closures in 2016 — and purchased two natural gas plants prior to that — the utility is forecasting another round of capacity need around 2030 when its remaining coal units are retired. When that happens, Consumers is planning a modular network of solar projects to help meet capacity needs. The utilities are different in size and serve different geographical regions of Michigan, making it difficult to directly compare the two. DTE also has relatively little natural gas capacity compared to Consumers. For more on this story visit energynews.us or click https://bit.ly/2Nok7ow
