Natural Gas Plays Major Role in Energy Transition: Qatargas CEO

Gulf Times reported: Qatargas CEO Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa al-Thani has underscored the significance of liquefied natural gas (LNG) as a “destination fuel” in the future of energy, playing a major role in the ‘energy transition’ the world is embarking on. The Qatargas CEO was speaking at a ‘CEO Conclave’ titled ‘Shaping the New Energy World’ held as part of the 13th International Oil & Gas Conference and Exhibition-Petrotech 2019, organised by the Indian Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas in New Delhi from February 10 to 12. Sheikh Khalid said, “Natural gas remains the fastest growing fossil fuel globally, benefiting from its flexibility, competitive economics, and low emissions profile. Thus, natural gas is called to play a major role in the energy transition, supported by the industrialization and power demand particularly in emerging countries in Asia and Africa, and the continued ‘coal to gas’ switch, especially in India and China.” For more on this story visit gulf-times.com or click https://bit.ly/2thd6Or

New US Gas Pipeline Capacity Installed Rose 35% in 2018: FERC Report

S&P Global reported: Reflecting a multi-year evolution in natural gas markets, 2018 saw a jump in new US gas pipeline capacity and gas-fired generation coming into service, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s latest infrastructure report shows. About 13 Bcf/d of new interstate pipeline capacity was placed in service in 2018, a 35% rise from 9.7 Bcf/d added the prior year, according to FERC’s recently released December 2018 infrastructure report. But pipelines awaiting approval in the federal regulatory queue tapered off in 2018 from recent peaks in 2016 and 2017. Gas pipeline capacity that FERC certificated in 2018 dropped 70% to 9.2 Bcf from the recent peak of 30.7 Bcf/d approved in 2017, according to the FERC report.
