Multiple Injured in Apparent Natural Gas Explosion in Denver
New York Post reported: Nine people were injured, one critically, by an apparent natural gas explosion in Denver on Tuesday, firefighters said. Capt. Greg Pixley, a spokesman for the Denver Fire Department, said seven bystanders were treated for minor injuries and released after a portion of a brick rowhouse was leveled in the blast just south of downtown. A man was critically injured, and a woman who was pulled from the debris is in stable condition. Pixley said some of the injured were burned, and the fire department is working with Xcel Energy to determine what happened. Pieces of wood were thrown like sticks, and bricks were spilled on the ground in front of the one-story building, which was being searched by a cadaver dog. “Our goal is not to find a victim but to rule out that a victim is there,” Pixley said. Alexander Ponton, whose car was hit by the blast, said he and a few other people helped pull a couple from the debris.
New Ultra-Low Emission Heavy Duty Natural Gas Trucks Hit the Road in California
Market Watch reports: Southern California Gas Co.(SoCalGas) and Food Express, Inc. (FXI) today announced the addition of 11 new ultra-low emission natural gas trucks to the FXI fleet. The company, with the assistance of SoCalGas, applied for and received $1.1 million in grant funding for the new trucks which started making deliveries today. The company has an additional 35 trucks on order. Funding was received from the Prop 1B program administered by the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District and the California Hybrid and Zero-Emission Truck and Bus Voucher Incentive Program (HVIP). The purchase of 46 new trucks represents about 50 percent of FXI’s California fleet. The company is on the wait list for an additional $900,000 in Prop 1B grants from the San Diego Air Pollution Control District, which would be used to purchase another 9 trucks.
