Supply constraints in the southeast continue to affect gasoline consumers. Colonial is constructing a temporary segment to bypass the leak along Line 1. The bypass around Line 1 is roughly 500-700 feet long, much shorter than the several miles initially reported.

On Friday, Colonial Pipeline began excavation to begin the repair of the gasoline line. Colonial continued to work throughout the weekend and anticipates line 1 to become operational this week.

Colonial announced yesterday that the main gas line is not expected to resume operations until next week. It was reported yesterday that 252,000 gallons of gas leaked from the pipeline and crews are still working to clean up the affected area. The EPA has said that the spill is contained and residents nearby are not at risk.

Last Friday, September 9, a leak was found on the Colonial Pipeline’s gas line near Helena, AL, halting the flow of gasoline from the Gulf Coast to the Southeast. Colonial Pipeline’s main gasoline line continues to be down, impacting supply from Mississippi to Maryland. Colonial began shipping gas along the diesel line today, which only provided minimum relief.

Tropical Storm Hermine is expected to make landfall close to Perry, FL this evening. Several models have Hermine making landfall as a Category 1 Hurricane. In preparation, the Governor of Florida has issued a State of Emergency for 51 counties. Hurricane and Tropical Storm watches and warnings have expanded in Florida and have been added in Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina.

Tropical Depression Nine continues to move toward the bend of Florida, and is anticipated to make landfall just north of Tampa. Currently the storm is located 450 miles southwest of Apalachee Bay, Florida. The system is expected to continue to strengthen over the next 48 hours. Some models give the system a small chance to develop into a Hurricane.

Tropical Depression Nine continues to move into the Gulf Coast. It currently remains poorly organized; however, it has the potential to become a Tropical Storm in the next 48 hours. Models are still in agreement that the storm will continue to hook back into Florida, north of Tampa. The storm is projected to bring heavy rains into central Florida this week.
